Upcoming Indian Netflix Originals for 2026
Netflix has unveiled a comprehensive slate of Indian Originals set to debut in 2026. The lineup includes 13 new Original movies, 10 new Original series, and 5 returning shows, underscoring the platform's commitment to expanding its presence in the Indian market.
New Original Films
Among the anticipated films is Adhure Hum Adhure Tum, a romantic dramedy that promises to capture the complexities of love and relationships. Gandhari, another notable addition, features actress Taapsee Pannu in the role of a fierce mother. The filming for Gandhari concluded in March 2025, setting the stage for its release in the coming year.
Ikka stars Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, with Vijay Vikram Singh having wrapped up filming. This film adds to the diverse genres Netflix is exploring with its Indian Originals. Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga 2 is aiming for a theatrical release before its digital premiere, expanding Netflix's distribution strategy beyond streaming.
One of the standout projects is Lust Stories 3, returning with new directors, including a segment directed by Vikramaditya Motwane. Maa Behen features renowned actresses Madhuri Dixit and Triptii Dimri, while Takshakudu delves into the realm of Telugu folklore thrillers, showcasing the regional diversity of Indian cinema.
New Original Series
On the series front, Netflix has announced Akka, a drama series set in the 1980s matriarchal society of Pernuru, starring Radhika Apte, Keerthy Suresh, and Tanvi Azmi. Pulkit Samrat takes on the role of a boxer in Glory, with filming completed in May 2025.
Legacy features R. Madhavan and Nimisha Sajayan, while O Saathi Re, directed by Imtiaz Ali, completed its final shooting in May 2025. Operation Safed Sagar is another significant series based on the 1999 Kargil War, focusing on the Indian Air Force's mission. It is scheduled for release in 2026.
In Super Subbu, Sundeep Kishan stars as a teacher, and The Smuggler’s Web series featuring Emraan Hashmi is also expected to premiere in 2026. An untitled business drama by Hansal Mehta stars Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma, shot in Sri Lanka, alongside an untitled series by Rensil D’Silva marking Parineeti Chopra's debut in series roles, filmed in Shimla over two months.
Returning Series
The renewal of popular series continues with Heeramandi Season 2 and Maamla Legal Hai, which has added Dinesh Lal Yadav and Kusha Kapila to its cast. Mismatched will conclude with its fourth season, and The Royals Season 2 promises more drama for its fans. Additionally, Guns & Gulaabs was officially renewed in 2023.
The global appeal of Netflix's Originals is evident with the renewal of the K-Drama 100 Days of Lies and Last Samurai Standing for a second season.
Global Originals with Indian Appeal
In addition to the Indian Originals, Netflix is expanding its catalog with several global series that may attract Indian audiences. Free Bert features Bert Kreischer in a six-episode series, and Run Away, the tenth adaptation of a Harlan Coben novel, is set to premiere on January 1st.
Land of Sin will follow closely, premiering on January 2nd, and His & Hers, based on Alice Feeney's novel, will be available on January 8th. An adaptation of Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials by Chris Chibnall will release on January 15th, alongside Love Through a Prism, a coming-of-age anime set in 1900s London.
On January 22nd, audiences can expect Finding Her Edge, inspired by Jane Austen’s Persuasion. Fans of Bridgerton can look forward to Season 4 Part 1, which will premiere on January 29th, continuing the romantic saga of Benedict Bridgerton and the Lady in Silver.
These upcoming releases highlight a diverse array of narratives and genres, indicating Netflix's strategic effort to cater to a wide spectrum of tastes and preferences among its Indian and global audiences.
